The moment you lose your files, stop work on your computer immediately and do not save any other open files!
If you accidentally delete a file, your computer doesn't get rid of it. It simply deletes the file address and makes the disk space available to be over written. It may still be possible to restore the data as long as the space on your hard drive is not used by a new file.
Don't Panic
Check the recycle bin. Often deleted files will simply be moved to the recycle bin and can be easily restored.
Have you accidentally moved the files to another location on your system?
In Windows click on start and select 'Search' On the list of 'What do you want to search for?' select the type of file you've lost. If you're not sure select 'all files and folders'. If you can remember the date you last used the file click on 'When was it modified?'
If you forgot to give the document a name it may have defaulted the name to the first line in the document such as 'Dear Mary'.
If the lost files are not in the recycle bin and do not appear in a search, Tecstuff.com may still be able to recover the data using specialist file recovery programs.
